I’ve never been particularly interested in skincare products or even makeup until the last year or so. Now don’t get me wrong, I’d wash my face daily and even use moisturiser when I remembered to but that was about it. I had no idea what a cleanser or a toner was and would use cheap primark makeup wipes to take my makeup off!
Now though I’m all about looking after myself and have found that it helps loads with my self-confidence. It’s also one of my August Goals and I’m really trying to keep to this one!
Before I do anything I always make sure to take off all my makeup and to do that I use the Micellar Cleansing Water. I’d heard so many good things about this stuff from other bloggers and it was on offer in Boots a month or so ago, so I thought why not give it a go and see if its worth all the hype.
I have to say for the most part- it is!
It gets rid of my makeup so well and can even tackle my waterproof stuff. Just don’t get it in your eyes- it sings like a motherf*cker!
Considering it’s really hard to find products I can use because of how sensitive my skin is and also how little it costs I am very impressed!
I also scrub my lips with some Lush Lip Scrub before I get started, normally only once a week though. When I first got this I originally used to use this every other day, but I noticed it started to make my lips feel too tender so I switched to once a week instead.
I’ve found this to be a lot better and if I need to use it during the week I can do without it being a problem. I also use two different lip balms, depending on what my lips are like. If I’m just doing my daily routine I’ll use The Body Shop Hemp Lip Balm as it moisturises my lips really well but soaks in quickly. If I’ve used the lip scrub I’ll use the Nivea Essential Care one as it is super hydrating and makes my lips feel even smoother.
The main part of my routine is made up of The Body Shop Aloe Vera products and if you read my #HerdOfSheffield post you’ll know that I picked up some of these last weekend. I already had a few of these before (you can tell which ones as they’re in the old packaging) but I was starting to run low.
Now I’m not going to say that the way I do this is right (it’s probably completely wrong) but this is just how I do things and it works really well for me. If you do something different and it works for you then that’s great!
I use the Calming Cream Cleanser first and I just apply it with freshly washed hands so I don’t spread any bacteria around that could cause spots. I’m actually really lucky in that I’ve never really suffered with spots, even as a teenager when I did absolutely nothing with my face except wash it. I’d just get one humongous one every month or so, usually on my chin or forehead and that was it!
After that has had time to settle into my skin, I use the Toner on a cotton pad and go over my whole face and neck. I’m sure it does lots of wonderful things for my skin but I’ve absolutely no idea what they are! I literally bought it because my friend who works there told me I should as part of the set…anyway its good stuff and leaves my skin feel refreshed and tighter, which I’m guessing is the point.
It does dry my skin out a little too though so the next step is most important, for me at least. I use the Soothing Day Creme last of all and it is soooo hydrating! I don’t know how I ever went without it!
The flaky skin I’ve struggled with all my life is a thing of the past! Not only does my skin look and feel better but my foundation has started to sit better on my face. It doesn’t clump up like it used to do and it actually seems to stay on longer!
Not only has my skin improved but my self-confidence has too. I’ve started looking in the mirror and actually liking what I see, which is a really nice but new experience for me! It’s also a great way to practice self-care when I don’t have much free time, since its something I would be doing anyway. I turn off my phone (well put it on silent), put on some cheesy old classics and reflect on my day while having a mini pamper session.
