Okay so this post is really late. Like a month today late. Normally I would be so on the ball with things like this, I have to do lists full of to do lists for goodness sake! But life has a habit of not sticking to your made up daydreams of how you want it to be. So rude.
So as my regular readers will know it was my birthday last month and I had one of the best ones ever! I spent it with the people I love and got some really awesome gifts (most of which are Harry Potter related as you will soon see).
On the day I decided against the typical blog posts and decided to write a bit of an inspirational one about how just because you’re in a bad place now, life will get better. I sound like a commercial for a self help course so I’ll shut up about it now, but if you want to read that post you can find it here.
So as you can guess by the title of this post, I’m going to be showing what I got for my birthday today. I always feel awkward writing post like this as I don’t want people to think I’m showing off or anything, but at the same time I know I love being nosy and reading them myself.
I’m so contrary.
So here we go: what I got for my 23rd birthday including pictures exactly one month late.
The clothes were bought for my by my parents, mainly so I’d definitely have something to open in case my main present didn’t turn up on time. Good job they did as it didn’t actually turn up until the day after, but more on that later!
The gift card was one of the presents Liz got me and honestly it the perfect present for me- I love tattoos! I recently got my first tattoo covered up at a place called Lucky 13 and absolutely loved how it turned out! (You can read my post about why I got it covered and see the end result here.) She asked me if I’d go back there and when I said yes she went and picked me this up so I can get some money off my next one. Love you gurl!
I actually went back last week for a charity even they were holding and got a new tattoo. I’ll be showing it off in a later post so keep your eyes peeled for that!
Okay so you may not know this but I’m a Slytherin. Feel free to boo and hiss. But I’ve known my House since I first read the sorting hat song when I was a little kid, it fits me perfectly.
However there seems to be a common misconception companies have that there is in fact only one House at Hogwarts, and they wear red and gold.
This is soooo annoying for those of us in other Houses as we find it really hard to find merch in our colours. Slytherin are sometimes represented but god help you if you’re a Hufflepuff!
So I was so happy when Liz (a Hufflepuff in case you were wondering) managed to find this bookmark for me! I’ve always got a book on the go and even though I’m slowly migrating onto kindle (yes I hate myself for that but it’s so much more convenient) this present will get used on a daily basis!
Another of my friends Joe picked me up this gorgeous Hogwarts notebook! I’m a sucker for a good bit of stationary but I can say with certainty that I will never dare use this; it’s too pretty and I don’t want to ruin it with my messy handwriting!
It’ll just sit on my Harry Potter shelve and be admired and I’m totally fine with that!
As you will have seen from the pictures before, Joe also got me a heat changing Sherlock mug!
Not only am I a huge Sherlock fan but A Scandal in Belgravia is my favourite episode and that is where “I Am Sher Locked” comes from.
I was a very happy Jade when I opened that up!
Although I wasn’t happy with him for using glitter wrapping paper; who’s bright idea was it to put glitter on something you rip apart?! I’m going to hunt that person down and throw them in a bath tub full of the stuff because that’s pretty much what it looked like had happened to me after opening it!
The chocolates were bought for me by someone that comes into the charity shop I volunteer at. We get on really well and I love cuddling her baby, he’s the happiest baby I’ve ever met! Even when teething he looks round for us the second they come into the shop and, when he spots us, he breaks into the biggest grin I’ve ever seen! He’s soooo adorable!
One way I love to relax it to put on a DVD, curl up in bed and light a candle, usually with a hot drink and a snack or six. So my parents also got me a candle (the one at the back) and a new DVD, the cartoon Christmas Carrol.
Now I’ve never actually seen this film and since I’m struggling to feel festive this year I think I might just go light the sweet vanilla candle Liz got me and put it on, see if that helps!
I wasn’t kidding when I said ever person got me at least one HP item! The Voldemort pop is what my other best friend Abby got me, along with Narcissa Malfoy’s Wand. I was admiring this one when we went to Harry Potter Studios in august (read that post here, it’s a good one!) and Abby obviously noticed and bought it me!
My parents also bought me the Elder Wand, bringing my total of wands to three now. This was the main present that I mentioned earlier that didn’t turn up anywhere near when it should have done. It was bought over a week before my birthday and was meant to arrive within two days…six days later the postman finally knocked on the door!
So there you go, that’s what I got for my birthday! I know it’s not the conversation things people at 23 get, but I love all of my presents and wouldn’t change any of them.
What’s would you love to get as a birthday present?
