Okay so this is a post I didn’t expect to be writing at all. However last week I was lucky enough to win Alys George’s first ever giveaway!
I was actually out when the package turned up and even though Alys sent it first class it still turned up quicker than either of us expected. Luckily my grandparents live next door and my grandad heard the postman knocking on our door so he took the delivery for me! There are so many perks to them living next door but this one is a big one. Although home-made bread on demand is a very close contender!
When I opened the packaging I found this gorgeous box and postcard, both from Paperchase. I’m planning on keeping the box and using it as a memory box for when I print out all my pictures from London and all the other trips me and ForAllThatWander have been on lately! The postcard is soooo pretty, I’m probably going to end up displaying it somehow. I have a habit of doing this, buying postcards and then either framing them or sticking them on my wall.
It’s becoming a bit of a problem actually.
When I turned the postcard over I found a lovely note from her on the back. I know it might sound strange but just knowing that someone took the time to actually write that they read my blog and actually like it really made me feel great!
I mean I know people read it, I get views and comments on here and on Twitter but for some reason this really hit home that people actually read my ramblings!
When I opened the box, I found everything wrapped up in pale pink tissue paper which I thought was a lovely effect, kind of like getting a birthday or Christmas present.
And I’m not going to lie, I did feel like a kid a Christmas opening it up!
Even though I knew what I was getting it seemed like so much more when I was unpacking them! I’ve been considering starting YouTube and did think about recording this and putting it on YouTube rather than as a post but I’ve not built up the confidence to do that yet.
So I suppose instead of an unboxing I should have really called this a review as you can’t actually see me unboxing it…
So onto what I actually got and what my first impressions are!
Now I’m going to get so much hate for saying this but I’m not a fan of hers; don’t get me wrong I’m sure she’s a lovely person and to have achieved so much at such a young age is an awesome achievement, you go girl! But I just don’t find her channel appealing to watch.
I am, however, now a fan of her products!
I’ve seen them in Superdrug and seen some of the YouTubers I watch mention them on Snapchat but I’d not picked any up myself so far. In will definitely be going and picking another one of these bags up though! It’s small enough to fit my basic makeup in, thin enough to not take up too much room in my bag and of course- it looks so pretty!
I was originally going to put things like plasters, tablets and a few ladies products in but after I recently went and got my eyebrows threaded I realised I need to start actually carrying the basic makeup with me. They removed my drawn on eyebrows to thread them but I had nothing with me to put them back on with again, so I ended up walking around Meadowhall feeling like a right prat! Not my idea of fun. So I’ve used it for a few basics like concealer, eyeliner, a mini mascara, lip balm, eyebrow pencil and some powder, just in case.
I’m really surprised how much I’ve actually been able to fit into it!
As you can see from the picture this pallet contains five products; 1 Bronzer, 2 Blushes and 2 Highlighters. I’ve spent the morning playing around with with this pallet and overall I have to say it’s pretty good. The bronzer is a really nice colour, makes me look a bit more tanned and actually alive without overdoing it, which for me is a huge achievement!
The blushes are a little but too intense for me, especially the top one. I usually stick to really muted colours, my go to is Dandelion from Benefit Cosmetics because it only adds a slight bit of colour and you can build up with it. These are pretty pigmented so it can be hard to do this with these and being super pale I only need the slightest bit of colour before it starts to look ridiculous on me.
I’ve tried out both highlights, separate and mixed together and they’re actually pretty muted which I quite like. I needed something for days when I want to do a no make up look and these are perfect for that.
They add a little bit of shimmer to your face, giving it a healthy glow but not so much so that people need sunglasses on to look at you!
Another Zoella product that I will definitely be buying in bulk!
It smells divine!
I’ve not actually got around to using it (I’ve not even unwrapped it yet as its so pretty) and I will need to run a patch test before I do. I have super sensitive skin and I can have reactions to a lot of products, so I always try new products out before using them all over my body.
Done that before and let’s just say it was a lesson very painfully learnt!
This eyeshadow surprised me as I didn’t think it would be anything special. Guess that’ll teach me to judge on packaging alone!
These eye shadows are really pigmented and I think the lighter colour would be great as a brow and inner corner highlight. The darker colour will be great for when I attempt to do a smokey eye or just to slap all over my lids when I’m feeling lazy and having a flash back to my emo days!
When I first opened and swatched this I thought it would be too dark but I was pleasantly surprised! It does have a little bit of a sparkle to it but it’s not too much and I think you could get away with wearing it through the day. Not that I really care, if I like something I wear it, regardless of if you’re “meant to” or not.
Yeah, never ask me for makeup advice.
Anyway I’m absolutely in love with this product, it great for people with pale skin but I think that you could easily build it up for people with darker skin than me (which is probably 99.9% of the human race to be fair).
I was pretty excited about this product when I first saw it in the box but now I’ve tired it out I have to say I’m a little letdown. When it was drying it clumped up and left little creators that I had to quickly paint over again to get rid of.
The colour is so bright too, almost neon! I’m not a fan of pink normally but this I would wear simply because it is so different from everything else I own and it’s kind of quirky.
If you’re looking for something for a festival or party I’d definitely give this a go!
This is tapered on a slant and I’ve been using it for my contour/bronzer. All I can say is that I need to check out the rest of the collection as this one is amazing! It’s very soft but also really dense, so it picks up product well but blends everything out perfectly. I can see this getting used daily!
It’s actually a good size brush and feels comfortable to hold and use. If you’re looking for a new brush I would definitely look into this one as they’re really affordable and this one is actually on offer in Superdrug at the moment, even better!
I just had to put this picture in too, there were a ton of gold stars inside inside and I thought this was an awesome little touch! I’ve actually saved these incase I want to add them to any blog photography…basically just an excuse to play with stars and make a mess!
All I have left to say is thank you so so much to Alys for picking me as the winner! If you don’t already follow her can find her on Twitter, Instagram and on her Blog, she’s an awesome lady and you should definitely look her up.
