My April 2018 Favourites

30/04/2018

Taking a blogging break is all well and good, until you sit down to write your first post for a while and find your brain no longer knows how to write a coherent post!

I’ve already spoken in my life update post about why I’ve had to take an unwelcome break from my blog this month, but I have so many ideas planned out for May; I can’t wait to have time to just sit down and batch write them all day.

This morning I tried to write a caption for an Instagram photo and couldn’t even manage that, so goodness knows what state this post is going to end up in…

This month has been a real mix of ups and downs. Chris was involved in a pretty serious accident and his car ended up on its roof at the bottom of a ditch. The guy who caused it just sped off and if it wasn’t for some kind people stopping to help him out of the car, it could have been a whole lot worse. By some miracle he walked away from it with just an injured arm and knock to his head!

Chris's Car Accident

While he didn’t end up with any serious injuries, he’s had a really hard time dealing with the anxiety and flashbacks that the crash has been causing. That’s going to take a lot longer to heal than his bruises will.

We got quite lucky, even though Chris didn’t have a dash cam himself (I was actually planning on buying him one for his birthday) they person in the car behind him did have one, and managed to catch the whole event on it. The police have been reviewing it and this morning they phoned Chris to let him know that they had found the driver who caused the crash and were questioning him today; he’s hopefully going to be charged with dangerous driving and fleeing the scene of an accident.

There have been some good points though; going to watch snooker live at The Crucible Theatre and a short holiday with Chris and his family. Then of course Avengers Infinity War finally coming out…although in all honesty I’m not actually sure if thats a good or bad thing after watching it.

Don’t worry, no spoilers from me. But if you’ve watched it, you’ll know!

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

Almost every beauty blogger in the industry seems to endlessly talk about this foundation, so I thought I would finally pop into my local counter and pick up a sample of it.

At first glance I absolutely love this foundation (obviously otherwise I wouldn’t be including it in this post…), it’s very full coverage without being clingy to my dry patches. Plus it lasts all day, even without any setting spray on! Not only that but it actually matches my skin tone perfectly, something I usually struggle to find in both high end and drugstore foundations.

However after a week of trying it out, I noticed that I was starting to get a bit of a breakout on my chin. I wasn’t trying out any other new products at the time and once I stopped using it, it cleared up in only a few days. I’m hoping it was just bad timing and was actually caused by stress and my crappy diet recently, so I’m going to wait until things have settled down a little and then try it out again.

I’ll keep you updated.

Lush Breath of God Perfume

Lush Breath of God Perfume

Okay so confession time; this is the first Lush product that I’ve actually bought for myself. I’ve only ever been in a few times for a friends Christmas present and some products for my first ever giveaway which I ran last year.

However I finally get the hype around their products!

It reminds me so much of freshly cut oak that I had to pick it up. My dad worked as a Joiner when I was growing up and he would always come home smelling of sawdust and wood; so I always associate those scents with him and my childhood.

You don’t really need to put much of it on, it’s a very strong scent and lasts most of the day without needing a top up. It’s quickly become my go-to scent this spring.

Bullet Journaling/Planning

Last week I picked up an undated planner from Primark, it was reduced down to just £2 and couldn’t resist snatching it up!

I’ve been planning on getting a real bullet journal for a while now, but I’m not actually naturally artistic. Strange for a designer to say I know; I can create things on Illustrator all day but I can’t draw with paper and pencil to save my life. I know a lot people say it doesn’t matter, that a journal can be messy and all over the place, but I’m a perfectionist and have to have everything looking neat and pretty.

You only have to look at my bullet journal board on Pinterest to see what I mean.

So instead I decided to compromise a little; I picked up the planner and then spent the next few hours making lots of lists in it. Not only do I now feel like I’ve got my life a little bit more in order, but it always helps my motivation and mood to tick off everything I’ve actually achieved in a day!

I’ve not had as many things to feature this month, but considering I’ve basically been glued to my laptop trying to hit deadlines, thats hardly surprising.

What have you been loving this month?

  1. OMG, I’m so sorry that you guys have had such an up and down month but I’m so happy to know that Chris is okay. Sending lots of positive vibes your way! As for your favorites…I FINALLY ordered the Double Wear foundation and can’t wait to give it a whirl, I’ve heard nothing but great things about it! And I’m with you, I’ve been a planning fool this past month! Thanks so much for sharing! xo

I adore your pictures in this post, they really are stunning.. 😍 I definitely need to pop into my local Boots and pick up a sample of Double Wear because I adore anything and everything full coverage although the break out doesn’t sound too great! 🤦🏼‍♀️ I hope May is a little better to you than April.. 🙊

Thank you so much lovely! We really appreciate them ☺️ and ooo let me know how you like it! I really hope it isn’t that which broke me out as I honestly love it! 🙌🏼 xx

  4. Jade Marie says:

Thank you so much lovely! 😁😘 you get a generous amount to test too which is great 🙌🏼 and I really hope it wasn’t that which broke me out, though I do have hyper sensitive skin so it wouldn’t surprise me 🤦🏻‍♀️

It sucks to hear that you and Chris have been having such a challenging month. I know I said it at the time on Twitter but I really do hope things start to get easier for you both soon, especially with the anxiety Chris is experiencing. That can’t be easier on either of you. On another note, I’ve heard so many good things about double wear floating around the internet, but all the opinions from people I know are rubbish. One girl I go to college with used to wear it until I pointed out that it didn’t match her skin tone at all. It’s such a shame as it genuinely seems so full coverage!

  6. Jade Marie says:

Thank you so much Rebekah! He’s slowly getting better, I think he’ll start recovering more after the trial when it’s all over 🙁 and it really is full coverage but I’ve been trying it again voter the last few days and I have to say, I’m not loving it as much as I did on the first day! It’s a shame as I really want to love it like so many others do 🙁

I’m so glad to hear that they’ve found the person who’s responsible for Chris’ accident! That is a huge step and will hopefully make it a bit easier for Chris to process what has happened. Favourites-wise, I will definitely have to give that Lush fragrance a sniff next time I’m in town – it sounds beaut! x

  8. Jade Marie says:

Thanks Lisa! We’ve just got to wait for the trial date to be set- we’ll be going t watch him be convicted and hopefully that will give chris closure 🤞🏼😔
And I didn’t like it straight away but the longer I spent sniffing it, the more I started to like it 🙈 x

The lush perfume sounds gorgeous, I’ll definitely have to try that. And I’m so sorry to hear about your boyfriend’s crash, they truly are mentally scarring things – I hope he feels better soon.

  10. That photo is terrifying and I really hope Chris is doing okay, I can’t imagine what that must have been like for him! And you of course, I wouldn’t have coped with that phone call or situation. I’m so glad they’ve found the driver though and I hope he gets what he bloody deserves!! Also about the Estee Lauder foundation, a skincare expert friend of mine told me that it has some sort of wax in and clogs the pores completely resulting in break outs which is why I’ve never purchased it! I’m not sure how true it is but I’d be careful with the stuff!

So sorry to hear about the accident! That must have been so scary, so glad they’ve found the person responsible! That must be a relief in some way. Love the sound of that Lush fragrance, ive never tried one of them before! Xx

Sorry to hear about the crash but so glad the car behind had a dash cam! I bet the prick that drove off thought they had gotten away with it. I have been stuck behind my laptop too with uni work, but I have also loved Avengers, I can’t stop thinking about it and I think I actually might have to go and watch it again haha! x

  13. That photo is terrifying. Good thing he was not injured. I hope he gets better. Not sure i have any favorites for last month… maybe the new scottish fine soaps’ Oak range =) xx corinne

  14. That’s great news that they could trace the person responsible for the crash Jade, I hope this brings Chris a little comfort.
Love a bargain and if it’s stationery it doesn’t get much better I would have been the same and snapped it up!
I do love a trip to Lush but they don’t happen very often – I’m usually too busy treating the kids! I have never sampled their fragrances but I’m pleased you have found one you like 😃

Sorry to hear Chris is experiencing anxiety after the crash, wishing him all the best and hope things get easier. It’s good news the driver got caught in the end. Loving your favourites Jade – I’m also a list kinda girl and like to tick things off to feel more organised 😄 xx

Great post! That perfume sounds great!

  17. I’m so glad to hear that the police know who caused the accident. I hope he gets charged and I hope Chris can heal soon and you can both put it behind you! Definitely not something you need in the back of your mind all the time! Xxx

  18. Your photography is beautiful in this x

HI THERE!

Thanks for stopping by! I’m a twenty-five-year-old digital media graduate with a passion for writing and a desire to change the way we view mental health and autism. I’ve owned jademarie.co.uk for nearly two years now, and its slowly changed from a place where I would brain dump whatever was going through my head that day, into a place where people can come for help, advice and hopefully a bit of a laugh. I do occasionally come out with a witty sentence or two. Mostly by accident.
