My Top 6 Lipsticks From 2017

Kiko Cosmetics Creamy Lipstick- Rouge A Levres

If you open up my makeup draw, you’d find that at least a third of the products in there are lip products, half of which I never get round to using as much as I should!

Even if all I do is fill in my eyebrows and dab a bit of foundation on my face, I’ll still add a quick swipe of lipstick.

It just brings everything together.

But I have a problem; no matter what I try, I always have very dry lips that are covered in dry skin. I’ve tried lots of different lip scrubs and balms to try and fix it, all without success.

Its probably got something to do with the fact I bite my lips subconsciously when I’m anxious or stressed…

Because of this, finding a lip product that doesn’t emphasis the dry skin can be pretty hard, especially as I prefer matte liquid lips to traditional lipsticks.

Most of the ones I’ve tried over the years have been really drying and really don’t look good on me.

However over the last year I’ve found several products that I love and (I think) suit me really well.

Sleek Matte Me- Shabby Chic

I originally got this one in a free gift set but I will definitely be re purchasing it when it runs out, I love it!

It’s a gorgeous brown with a slight purple undertone which is perfect for days when I want a semi- neutral lip; something I seem to be turning to more and more often lately.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a dark lip, but its perfect for when I’m doing a statement eye or a minimalistic look.

Mua Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer- Flair & Dash

Not only are these ridiculous inexpensive but the formula is fantastic, they aren’t drying or flaking like some of the others I’ve tired and actually feel hydrating even though they’re matte.

They come in a huge range of colours, from bold to neutrals to unusual so you should be able to find a colour for every occasion.

I’ve received so many compliments when I wear the shade flair (its the one I’m wearing in my profile photos) and I really could do with picking up a new one, as this one has almost run out I’ve worn it that much!

Clinique Lip Pop Matte Mini- 03 Ruby Pop

I spoke about how much I love this lipstick over in my Clinique haul and first impressions post and my opinion hasn’t changed.

If anything I’ve come to love it even more!

Finding a red lipstick that suits me can be pretty difficult as I’m so pale, there are certain shades that leave me looking washed out and ill, but this one isn’t one of them.

I love combining it with winged eyeliner and mascara for a really minimal look that’s perfect for anything from date nights to going into uni. The only problem is the price; its not something I could afford to buy regularly so I’ve started to wear it sparingly.

Instead I’ve started to wear the next one on my list…

Technic Cosmetics- Heartache

While this isn’t a perfect dupe for Ruby Pop (its noticeably darker) its a gorgeous colour and coming from Technic- its affordable!

They sent me this as part of their latest collection to try out and I’ve actually found myself reaching for it regularly since I received it.

Again I wear it with basic looks but its also good with more a more intense look when you have full eyeshadow, contour and highlight on.

Red is such a versatile colour!

NYX Liquid Suede- Brooklyn Thorn

If I’m not wearing a red lip, you’ll usually find me with a dark brown on instead and this is definitely my favourite liquid one to use.

It glides on perfectly and even though I have it, I hardly even need to line my lips with the matching pencil before pitting it on.

Kiko Cosmetics Creamy Lipstick- Rouge A Levres

Kiko tends to be the brand that I reach for on days where I can’t really be bothered with my makeup; mostly when I’m heading to university or heading into town to quickly pick up an online order.

It’s easy to apply and combined with the Kiko BB foundation, it makes me look less like a zombie and more like a semi functional adult in only a few minutes.

A lifesaver when I have a 9am lecture and sleep through my alarm!

First of all, you and your pictures are stunning! I wish every blogger would use custom imagery because it really takes your blog to the next level and shows us how creative you really are! Some of these shades are so beautiful; I really wish I could wear lipstick but sadly I look like a clown every time I put it on. A goal of mine for 2018 is to try out makeup again so I think the Kiko cosmetics one is at the top of my list!

Thank you so much! 🙂 I can’t always use custom photography unfortunately (uni takes up too much of my time at the moment) but I’m working on going through all my posts and replacing any stock with my own 🙂

I’m so glad you like my photography in this post though, I’m trying out a new editing style 😀 that’s horrible that you feel you can’t wear lipstick but yes, I’d definitely recommend the kiko one! It’s muted and not as in your face as most others 🙂 let me know if you get it, I’d love to see a photo! 🙂

  • bbbryony says:

The NYX liquid suede one looks stunning, it’s such a lovely colour, your pictures are all lovely too x

  • These are lovely shades (love your tattoo as well!) but I just can’t wear lip stuff! Ugh! First of all, my lips are always in rubbish condition. I don’t know why but they’re always dry and flaky – I’ve started putting vaseline on more but it seems like I have to smother buckets on. And lipsticks just don’t suit me for some reason haha! I so wish I could wear gorgeous colours like these xxx

  • Eva says:

Omg I haven’t tried any of these products! They’re all going straight onto the wishlist! x

  • I know exactly how you feel. I love liquid lipsticks but dry lips are the bane of my life. I love the look of the Sleek Matte Me shade, I’ve never tried any lipsticks from Sleek before but this is a gorgeous colour, as is the NYX in Brooklyn Thorn. I do like a brown lippy, it makes me feel very 90s!! xx

  • Ellen Yang says:

girll yes!! the nyx suede collection is to die for & can’t wait to purchase some more clinque lippies this year x

  • Jade Marie says:

It’s one of my favourite colours! And thank you so much 🙂 I’ve really gotten back into photography this week so I’m glad it’s paying off x

  • Jade Marie says:

Thanks Jenny! I’m hoping to expand it this year 🙈 and oh that’s shit! 😔 like I said mine are the same so I get what you mean- it’s taken me so long to find ones that don’t make me look ridiculous haha it’s a shame you can’t wear them!xxx

  • Jade Marie says:

Hope you love them as much as I do! I’d definitely recommend the NYX ones, they’re so long lasting it’s unreal!x

  • Jade Marie says:

You’d think by now they’d have come up with a product to eliminate dry lips! It’s the only one I’ve tried so far, but I’d pick up some other shades as I like the formula and I’d definitely repurchase this one! And dark lips in general remind me of the 90’s 🙌🏼 xx

  • Jade Marie says:

I’d have every colour in the collection if I could!! I was seriously tempted by the black one they do but I wouldn’t have the courage to wear it- at least not in public!x

  • Really fab picks in here! I love the MUA luxe ones, they really are inexpensive but work well. I really love the Kiko ones as Well, not tried the Clinique ones before but they sound good 🙂 really love the colours you’ve displayed here. I loved the bourjois ones this year, the formula is fantastic!

  • I’m so used using the same product over and over again instead of giving others a chance. Your post has definitely got me eager to try some of these products!! X

  • Jade Marie says:

I’m glad to know I’ve been able to help! 🙂 x

  • Jade Marie says:

Thank you so much! I’ve really gotten back into my photography this month so I’m glad to see its paying off 🙂 I’d definitely pick up a mini one if you can, they’re really long lasting! I’m not tried any of the bourjois ones but I might have to pick one up now- I’m looking for another neutral so that might be a good excuse to try them haha

  • I’m a fan of Sleek ones too, I’ve been wearing Birthday Suit since I got it! (and it’s been a while…) also, the pics in this post are great!

  • Corinne and Kirsty says:

  • Jade Marie says:

I really wish I could afford more Clinique products as I love their skincare and makeup! 🙁 NYX are amazing though, I use so many of their products haha xx

  • Lena Dee says:

I’ve never tried Clinique lippie but that color is brilliant! And both do I love a matte lip lol I think I’m fascinated with lippies. 😍💕

    xx Lena |

  • Jade Marie says:

I’d never tried one either until I picked the mini up but I love it! I’ve noticed I’ve become obsessed with lipsticks for some reason 🙈 xx

  • yep – a little bit of lippie totally completes a face! i always find myself reaching for lip products, even if it’s just a bit of gloss!

loads of new products here that i havent seen before – loving the look of ‘brooklyn thorn’!

    katie. xx

  • Jade Marie says:

I didn’t include a lip gloss in my list 🤦🏻‍♀️ then again I don’t really wear them these days, I love my matte products too much haha

And it’s such a gorgeous colour and really long lasting!xx

  • I have only tried the NYX liquid lip suede which I think is pretty good. Great list. I will have to try the MUA they carry that brand at CVS?

  • Jade Marie says:

I’m not sure what CVS is sorry! I think it’s a Superdrug own brand but I’m not 100% sure

  • I love this post! NYX has been my go to brand for lip products last year!

  • Jade Marie says:

I definitely need to invest in more of their lip products! I love them!xx

  • Lisa says:

Ohh, I love a good lipstick. I’m definitely a nude/90s brown kinda gal, but I do like a deep berry or red in autumn/winter. Also, I love the swatch photo because the lipstick colours go really nicely with your tattoo! 😀 xx

  • Jade Marie says:

Thank you so much! 😄 it was my first time doing swatches and I was worried they looked silly 🙈 yeah I love that my lipsticks match my tattoo!xx
