If you open up my makeup draw, you’d find that at least a third of the products in there are lip products, half of which I never get round to using as much as I should!
Even if all I do is fill in my eyebrows and dab a bit of foundation on my face, I’ll still add a quick swipe of lipstick. It just brings everything together. But I have a problem; no matter what I try, I always have very dry lips that are covered in dry skin. I’ve tried lots of different lip scrubs and balms to try and fix it, all without success.
Its probably got something to do with the fact I bite my lips subconsciously when I’m anxious or stressed…
Because of this, finding a lip product that doesn’t emphasis the dry skin can be pretty hard, especially as I prefer matte liquid lips to traditional lipsticks. Most of the ones I’ve tried over the years have been really drying and really don’t look good on me.
However over the last year I’ve found several products that I love and (I think) suit me really well.
I originally got this one in a free gift set but I will definitely be re purchasing it when it runs out, I love it! It’s a gorgeous brown with a slight purple undertone which is perfect for days when I want a semi- neutral lip; something I seem to be turning to more and more often lately. Don’t get me wrong, I love a dark lip, but its perfect for when I’m doing a statement eye or a minimalistic look.
Not only are these ridiculous inexpensive but the formula is fantastic, they aren’t drying or flaking like some of the others I’ve tired and actually feel hydrating even though they’re matte. They come in a huge range of colours, from bold to neutrals to unusual so you should be able to find a colour for every occasion. I’ve received so many compliments when I wear the shade flair (its the one I’m wearing in my profile photos) and I really could do with picking up a new one, as this one has almost run out I’ve worn it that much!
I spoke about how much I love this lipstick over in my Clinique haul and first impressions post and my opinion hasn’t changed. If anything I’ve come to love it even more! Finding a red lipstick that suits me can be pretty difficult as I’m so pale, there are certain shades that leave me looking washed out and ill, but this one isn’t one of them. I love combining it with winged eyeliner and mascara for a really minimal look that’s perfect for anything from date nights to going into uni. The only problem is the price; its not something I could afford to buy regularly so I’ve started to wear it sparingly. Instead I’ve started to wear the next one on my list…
While this isn’t a perfect dupe for Ruby Pop (its noticeably darker) its a gorgeous colour and coming from Technic- its affordable! They sent me this as part of their latest collection to try out and I’ve actually found myself reaching for it regularly since I received it. Again I wear it with basic looks but its also good with more a more intense look when you have full eyeshadow, contour and highlight on. Red is such a versatile colour!
If I’m not wearing a red lip, you’ll usually find me with a dark brown on instead and this is definitely my favourite liquid one to use. It glides on perfectly and even though I have it, I hardly even need to line my lips with the matching pencil before pitting it on.
Kiko tends to be the brand that I reach for on days where I can’t really be bothered with my makeup; mostly when I’m heading to university or heading into town to quickly pick up an online order. It’s easy to apply and combined with the Kiko BB foundation, it makes me look less like a zombie and more like a semi functional adult in only a few minutes; a lifesaver when I have a 9am lecture and sleep through my alarm!
What are some of your favourite lip products?
