If there’s one thing I love, it’s a good subscription box.
It’s like your Christmas and birthday all rolled into one. Even better for me since I normally know what I’m getting for them, where as boxes are usually a complete surprise.
Back in December I was contacted my LoveDrop, to see if I’d be interested in reviewing one of their date night boxes. It’s a bi-monthly box for couples, designed to inspire more people to have date nights; something I’m completely behind!
I’m always going on about how much I love self care and me time, but something that’s just as important in relationships are date nights. A night (or even whole day if you can swing it) where you just spend time with your significant other; away from responsibilities and technology and even other people.
And I won’t lie; one of my favourite ways to do this is to have sex. Its a time when you don’t think about anything else, just the person you love and what you’re doing together.
This is where their box comes in.
It contains a selection of items including; a couples sex toy, date night gifts, activity prompt cards and a few free samples. It can be a bit daunting trying to find a new toy, whether its your first time getting one or you already have a draw stacked full of them.
Well this way, you let someone else do the hard work for you.
I’m going to run you through my box and, as always, give you my honest review on the products I got in it. Including a story about what happens when brands thing all penis’s are a “one size fits all” deal!
TMI? Probably. Do I care? Not in the slightest!
The first thing I thought when I opened the box was that this is a lot smaller than the vibrators that I’m used it. The one I use normally is my Ann Summers Moregasm Contour Rabbit Ears and while I love it, it is a little on the bulky side. And loud! Not something that really bothers me in general, but when you still live at home with your parents who can walk upstairs at any moment… not exactly something you want them hearing.
The perks of this vibe is that its small and quiet. You can take it away with you on holiday and not have to worry about it being heard through thin hotel walls! It also comes with a little drawstring bag so even if someone looks in your case or bag, they won’t instantly see what it is; always helpful if you’re sex shy.
The only downside to it is that is isn’t the most powerful vibe I’ve ever used. It comes with different speeds and pulses like most do these days, but it’s definitely not as powerful as my Ann Summers one. In all honesty I’ll probably carry on using my rabbit at home, but the Lelo is something I’ll be taking with me whenever we’re staying away for a few days and its much more covenant for travel.
I have an unhealthy love for candles; I honestly must have at least 15 in my room alone, let alone however many are in the rest of the house. Well its unhealthy for my bank account anyway. My room smells lovely though.
The name of the one I have is Joy and since I am ridiculously bad at explaining smells, I’m just going to copy the description from the box. “ A sparkling citrus floral on a complex woody & musk base, over a rich, floral heart of Iris, Rose & Lily.” Bit of a mouthful. You can definitely smell the mix of wood and florals, but it isn’t overpowering.
It’s been a welcome addition to my collection and I’ve used it regularly while meditating or just relaxing with a book. Now I’m sure the point of it was to have candle lit sex but in all honesty, we’re too lazy to organise sex like that!
There seems to be a stigma around using lube, this idea that if you use it then you aren’t interested enough in your partner.
Your body actually produces less Estrogen at the beginning and end of your period, making it harder for you to “get wet” as the kids say. Plus if you have a condition like Vaginismus which I spoke about in my last post, it can be even harder to create any- even if you really want sex.
In those cases- it’s a lifesaver!
I’m always going to advocate condoms being included with anything sex related, as even if you’re using other methods of contraception, condoms give you that extra level of protection. The only problem is companies seem to have a “one size fits all” approach to them, which really wasn’t good for us in this situation!
Chris and I use condoms as our main form of contraception. I used to be on the pill but it had a really negative effect of my mental health, which you can read about in this post here if you want to know more. We’ve never had a problem with the standard Durex ones we normally use, they fit Chris fine and both of us find them comfortable. However these ones were…well lets just say a little on the tight side.
Chris is probably going to kill me for writing this on the internet, but when we tried these out…well they cut off the circulation down there!
Bye bye hard on.
We had a few seconds or just staring at each other before we burst out laughing and decided to just cuddle up under the covers and watch something on Netflix. The Road to El Dorado I think.
So really the only review I can give on these (considering we didn’t actually get to use them) is if you’re a guy on the thicker side, these probably aren’t the condoms for you!
Need I say more? Any box that comes with chocolate is good in my eyes. I’m not going to lie; I ate this long before Chris arrived. Sorry boo, I love you but I love chocolate more. I don’t even have a photo as I had to reshoot these and I’d already eaten it by that point.
I can tell you it tasted nice and that it lasted about 2 minutes, but thats about it. Never leave chocolate near me when I’m hormonal because I will just eat it without thinking.
Overall I was pretty happy with the box. The condoms were a bit of a let down but the Lelo vibrator is good quality and a great starting place for those just getting started with couples toys. And of course; chocolate and candles are always a bonus for me!
If I had a regular income coming in, its definitely something I would consider subscribing to; I’d love to see what comes in the next few boxes if this is the quality of the first one.
