Christmas is honestly my favourite time of year, theres just something so magical about it! People wish random strangers a merry Christmas and even though everyone is in a rush to buy presents and fight over that last Ted Baker Star-buy in Boots it all seems to be so much more friendlier than normal!
Or maybe thats just the way it is where I live…either way this is what I love most about The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!
Okay so technically I’ve only been to one of these twice in Leeds but I loved it and can’t wait to go to the Manchester one with Liz on Monday! I love the atmosphere and looking at all the amazing hand crafted items that I would love to buy, even if my bank balance wouldn’t thank me for it.
I also love all of the food and drink that you only really get this time of year and also how acceptable it is to eat third portions of everything! Diet? What diet?
I wish I could play these all year round as they’re just so happy! Well for the most part, lets just pretend that It’ll Be Lonely This Christmas doesn’t exist- I hate that song for so many reasons.
I have a playlist on Spotify that is full of my favourites, all the old classics like I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday and Merry Xmas Everybody that I belt out full blast and have to stop myself singing along to on public transport!
That is probably pushing the whole “Christmas Spirit” thing a bit too far.
There is just something wonderful about Christmas decorations. As a kid I used to love it when my auntie would drive back from somewhere at night and take me round to see all of the houses that were lit up.
There is a house just up the street from where I live that puts so many decorations up he has to start in November to make sure he has them ready in time! He’s always done this since I was a little girl and people come from all over to see them. He has a little collection tin outside where you can donate money to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospital which I think it a great idea, if people are going to come and see them you might as well try and raise some money for charity from it.
I also love putting up the tree and decorations in our own house; my dad just goes and hides upstairs for a few hours while me and mum put our favourite songs on full blast, dance around the room like idiots and sing along at the top of our voices. Its always been our thing and I look forward to it every year, me and my mum are really close and I love any excuse to do something together.
Okay so this one is a no brainer- we all love presents! I miss the magic of being a kid, coming downstairs and seeing this huge pile of presents under the tree, not knowing what I had got and being unable to even wait for breakfast before jumping in and unwrapping them. Finding one that said “From Dad” and knowing for a fact he had absolutely no idea what it was and Mum had just put that on the tag.
Except that one year when he won employee of the month just before Christmas and used his prize money to secretly buy me all thirteen A Series of Unfortunate Events books! Love you forever for that one Dad!
This one is actually amusing to write considering 99% of my family are Jehovah Witnesses and don’t do Christmas! But I think it is because of this that I value the family even more at this time of year. On all the adverts you see people having a huge family get together but that doesn’t happen for me- its just me, mum and dad sat round the table on Christmas Day, and in all honesty? I love it! We have always been close, I was never one of those bratty teenagers who rebelled and hated their parents, if anything we’ve got closer the older I’ve got. This time of year makes me feel even closer with them than normal, because we know its just the three of us and in all honesty- I wouldn’t change that for the world!
Also *drumroll please* this year I can add my boyfriend to this section too! As you may have seen on Twitter I went on my first ever date at the beginning of November and after quite a few awesome dates (including seeing Fantastic Beasts for the 3rd time!) we decided to start going out. I’m not going to go into the whole story now, I’ve got another post planned for that, but all I can say is I haven’t been this happy in such a long time!
2016 might have started in one of the worst possible ways but it’s finishing with so much amazing stuff having happened! 2017 is hopefully going to be even better!
